New York Medical College Opens Family Health Center to Provide Primary Care to Community Members
Integrating oral and primary health, NYMC’s Family Health Center creates a model of community health for Westchester County

Valhalla, NY, – New York Medical College (NYMC) celebrated a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, November 6 to mark the opening of its new Family Health Center, an outpatient faculty practice, open to the surrounding community and members of NYMC. Located in the same building as the Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM) at NYMC, the new health care center provides same day or walk-in appointments on Monday through Friday. By co-locating the two community-focused healthcare services, NYMC and TCDM created an integration of oral health with primary care—enriching education opportunities for the dental and medical students, improving patient outcomes and promoting the new model of dental health which recognizes the important link between dental and primary health.
New York State senator Pete Harckham, assemblyman Tom Abinanti and Westchester County legislator Margaret A. Cunzio attended the ribbon cutting alongside NYMC leadership and community members.
“Our new Family Health Center will provide continuous and integrated primary care to members of our local community under the watchful eyes of NYMC faculty,” said Lori Solomon, M.D. '99, M.P.H. '09, medical director of the Family Health Center, and chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at NYMC. “The ability to be in close proximity to some of New York State’s leading physicians, allows us to give each individual that walks through our doors the attention and care they need.”
“Our students are happy to have this new Family Practice Center located here where it will enrich their education and improve patient outcomes, and provide a bi-directional opportunity for the medical school and dental schools to work together on point-of-care testing and evaluating patients for chronic disease,” said Ronnie Myers, D.D.S., dean of the TouroCDM.
“As an additional point of care where patients can get one-stop-treatment for dental and general medical needs, this Family Health Care Center will be a great benefit to our community,” said New York State Senator Pete Harckham.
“This new Center located beside the dental clinic sets an example for the community health centers for how we should be treating people holistically; and I commend you for setting this example,” said Assemblyman Tom Abinanti.
“Being so centrally located here in Westchester County, where there is access to transportation by bus and train, the addition of this new point-of-care center is very beneficial—not only to residence in the immediate area, but also for those residing in the outlying areas. The Family Health Center is really a point-of-care facility that expands throughout Westchester Country,” said Westchester County Legislator Margaret A. Cunzio.
“I had as a long standing goal the opening of this facility since I became chancellor of New York Medical College. Today, we have created a family healthcare facility that is part and parcel of the dental services clinic. Individuals who receive health care screenings by a dentist might require medical intervention in addition to dental intervention, by having this facility located down the hall, we’ve established a ready, smooth, efficient model of referral by dentist to a physician. This administration extends its thanks to the village that created this facility,” said Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer at NYMC.
The Center is staffed by board-certified family physician faculty who are the cornerstone of NYMC’s Department of Family and Community Medicine.

- Management of chronic medical problems
- Wellness counseling
- Immunizations
- Gynecologic examination
- Electrocardiogram (EKG)
- Audiometry (hearing test)
- Spirometry (breathing test)
- Vision testing
- Cerumen (Ear wax) removal
- Wound care
- Hospital follow-up
- Coordination of specialty care
