School of Medicine Alumni Association Hosts Annual Reunion
It was a weekend of reminiscing with old friends and classmates for 150 School of Medicine (SOM) alumni and their guests at the SOM Alumni Association Annual Reunion on November 16-17. Members of the Classes of 1959 through 2014, reunited for an evening of dining, dancing and camaraderie on Saturday evening at the Hilton Westchester in Rye Brook, New York, followed by brunch and campus tours on Sunday. Special recognition was given to the Class of 1969 as they were presented with gold diplomas to celebrate their 50th anniversary of graduating from medical school. Judith Kupersmith, M.D. '69, and Joel Kupersmith, M.D. '64, were presented with Alumni Association Medals of Honor for their accomplished careers and their desires to inspire as physicians, mentors and leaders. NYMC Celebrates Founders, Raises Funds for Student Scholarship
New York Medical College (NYMC) hosted its Founder's Dinner at the Surf Club on The Sound in New Rochelle, New York, where more than 325 College supporters gathered for a festive evening to celebrate NYMC's proud history and promising future as well as honor distinguished community leaders and alumni for their impactful achievements. SOM Class of 2023 White Coat Ceremony
The largest class of medical students in the history of the School of Medicine celebrated its White Coat Ceremony. More than 1,000 guests watched as 217 first-year medical students processed into the auditorium and onto the stage--thus began the right-of-passage ceremony, considered the symbolic beginning of the four-year journey of medical school and entry into the medical profession. Humayun Islam, M.D., Ph.D., is Named Interim Chair of the Department of Pathology
Humayun Islam, M.D., Ph.D., clinical professor of pathology, has been appointed interim chair of the Department of Pathology, effective September 1. He has also been appointed interim director of the Department of Pathology at Westchester Medical Center. Dr. Islam has been an active member of the NYMC community since 2005, serving as the residency program director for the Department of Pathology, a member of the NYMC Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects Oncology Panel, a member of the Graduate Medical Education Executive Committee, as well as an advisor, educator and mentor to students. Dr. Islam most recently served as chief of anatomic pathology and medical director for hematopathology. Read the full article on Dr. Islam.

BioInc@NYMC Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary and Expansion
Government officials, local community leaders and other stakeholders joined NYMC to celebrate a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the five-year anniversary and expansion of BioInc@NYMC. The expansion of the fully-equipped biotechnology incubator adds an additional 9,500 square feet of new offices, conference rooms, shared-space desks and collaborative space. Since 2014, BioInc@NYMC has created more than 54 jobs, supported nine start-up companies, and with its newly expanded space, will allow for the incubation of up to 20 additional companies at the forefront of medical innovation. NYMC Opens Family Health Center to Provide Primary Care to Community and Create Learning Opportunities for Students
NYMC proudly celebrated the opening of its new Family Health Center, an outpatient faculty practice, open to the surrounding community and members of NYMC. Located in the same building as the Touro College of Dental Medicine (TouroCDM) at NYMC, the new health care center provides same day and walk-in appointments on Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Co-locating the two community-focused health care services will provide patients with the ability to meet multiple health care needs in one convenient location--both enriching education opportunities for the dental and medical students and improving patient outcomes. SOM Alumni Association Mixer
The SOM Alumni Association welcomed more than 50 students from all schools to the Alumni House for the Fall Student Mixer.
